He reached out to touch it but the sound of armour clanking not far past the treeline alerted him. He neared where it once was, and in its place was something unexpected. His vision returned and he looked down at the ground. He fell to his knees, clutching his ears tightly to try and block it out, but it only got louder. And then, the rumbling erupted into a roar that shook him through his core. But he could still hear the rumbling, like an echo in the back of his mind. His legs carried him back to the trees, where the staff was nothing but a small white line in the distance. It came from deep beneath the earth, the groan of something ancient. He stepped away, disappointed and slightly upset. "Fuck it." He gripped the staff with both hands, plunging it into the dry soil. ' Take this and place it somewhere that needs the power of.' He muttered to himself, faltering on the last word. He kicked a shallow hole in the mud with the toe of his boot and drew a deep breath. The clearing was quiet, and so he felt the confidence to stride further outwards into it, until he was stood in the dead centre of it. ![]() He slipped from his place of hiding, the sun finally embracing him. It looked rather ridiculous, and he began to doubt the words of the woman who had given it to him. It was somewhat reminiscent of a stick, only with white paint covering it from one end to another, and a small purple gem fixed into the tip of it with twine. His grip tightened, his knuckles going a pale yellow, and he stared down at the staff in his hand. He wanted to rid himself of these clothes, of this disguise, but he knew that sweat was far better than the consequences of getting caught. And hiding within such crevices, he stood, his face hidden by a cloth that made him sweat. There were crevices where the light did not touch, that were instead shrouded in shadows.
